My Background
Lara has been grooming pets for over 25 years. She currently owns a dog grooming and cat grooming salon in Northern Indiana.
Lara & Paul have three dogs of their own: Bernard, Rip, Noriega, and Heliconia.
My Skills
Lara is a National Certified Master Groomer and Pet Tech CPR & First Aid Instructor. She also teaches grooming and business classes at grooming coferences. She has taught classes all over the United States.
Lara's first priority is the care of your pet, that they are comfortable, and well cared for.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I have my pet groomed?
We usually recommend once a month. This keeps the grooming process normal for your dog, and is great for cutting down on shedding and keeping the nails short!
My dog is hot, why don't you shave double coat breeds short? Won't this help them keep cooler?

What types of payment do you accept?
We take cash, but can also send an invoice in advance of the appointment and a credit card can be used. Bank Transfer is also accepted. We also take PayPal or Venmo. If additional charges are incurred at the appointment those would have to be paid upon pick up. We will also consider bartering.
How'd you end up on Utila?
Lara & Paul first visited Utila in 2016 for a week. They came back in 2018/2019 for 3 months. Some of you may remember they did a grooming fundraiser for Jasper's Animal Shelter as it was being built at that time. They visited again in Sept/Oct 2021 and decided to move here in January 2022. Lara is an avid scuba diver but also wishes to continue to care for dogs.
What qualifications do you have to groom dogs?
Lara has been a pet groomer for over 25 years. She spent the first ten years of her career working for veterinarians. She is a National Certified Master Groomer and an open level competition groomer in the United States. Lara is President of the GBGV Foundation Board and chair of the health and newsletter committee for the GBGV Club of America (GBGV = Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen, a type of French hunting dog.) Lara is a Pet Tech CPR & First Aid Instructor and has taught those as well as other classes all over the United States. Lara follows best practices when it comes to grooming and will always do what is in the best interest of the pet. References are available upon request.
What is your Cancellation/No Show/ Late Policy?
Things come up, and we understand that, as well as "island time." That said, we are grooming by appointment so if someone is more than 10 minutes late we may not be able to accommodate and might have to reschedule the appointment. No-shows impact not only us but other customers who need appointments. Customers who no-show will need to pay for the previously missed appointment to get back on our schedule. Habitual no-show customers will need to pay in advance for their appointment to be scheduled and will forfeit the payment if they do not show up for their appointment (it will not be allowed to be rebooked and the payment applied at a later date.)
